If lowering music also makes your call too quiet, the master volume is solving the wrong problem. You need to change the balance between apps while keeping your overall listening level comfortable. Levelune puts individual app volume and mute controls in your Mac’s menu bar.
Choose the output device first
In macOS System Settings, open Sound and check the selected output device. Apple’s sound-output guide explains that setting. Confirm whether you intend to use headphones, a display or the Mac’s speakers before adjusting individual apps.
Levelune follows the output selected in macOS. It does not send different apps to different speakers. If your goal is routing one app to headphones and another to speakers, that is a different task from balancing their volumes.
Start both apps and open Levelune
Play the audio you want to balance, then open Levelune from the menu bar. Running apps appear together, with apps playing sound first. Lower the music app’s slider and keep the conversation app at a comfortable level. Make a small adjustment, listen, then adjust again if needed.
Use the master volume for the overall listening level after you have established the balance. If you lower both the app and master controls at once, it becomes harder to tell which change solved the problem.
Know what happens with browser audio
Levelune works at the app level. If your music and meeting are both in tabs of the same browser, they share that browser’s control in Levelune. Lowering the browser lowers its combined audio rather than isolating one tab.
In that situation, look for a volume control inside the music page or use a separate supported app for one of the audio sources. Do not expect a separate Levelune slider for every browser tab.
Mute the distraction, then check the result
Use an app’s mute control when you want it silent without changing the rest of the mix. Remember what you muted if that app seems unexpectedly quiet later. Pin frequently used apps to keep them easy to find; Levelune can retain volume and mute preferences.
If the mix is not behaving as expected, check the source app’s own volume, its mute state in Levelune, the master level and the macOS output selection. Review one control at a time.
Compatibility and audio access
Levelune requires macOS 26 or later and system audio access to adjust individual apps. Its audio processing stays on your Mac; it does not record audio files or upload your audio.
Download Levelune from the Mac App Store to build a mix that suits your workday. The goal is a useful balance, whether that means quiet background music or one distracting app muted entirely.
