A volume mixer can ask for a permission whose wording sounds broader than the task you want to do. Levelune uses macOS system audio access to adjust individual apps. Understanding that request makes it easier to decide what to enable and to troubleshoot a mixer that cannot receive audio.
Read the app name and the permission together
Levelune’s onboarding directs you to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen & System Audio Recording. The macOS category name includes screen recording; Levelune’s use is audio only. Its published privacy information says processing stays on your Mac, without recording audio files or uploading audio.
That description applies to Levelune. Do not assume another app listed in the same settings category behaves the same way. Read that app’s own explanation before making a permission decision.
Enable only the app you intend to use
Follow Levelune’s onboarding and the macOS prompt for Levelune itself. You do not need to grant unrelated apps access as part of this setup. If macOS asks you to quit and reopen an app after a permission change, follow the system’s instructions, then return to the mixer.
If you prefer not to allow access, leave the permission disabled. That can prevent Levelune’s app-volume controls from working. Ordinary volume controls inside your apps and the Mac’s output settings remain separate places to adjust sound.
Test with a simple audio source
Use a short piece of non-sensitive audio in one app. Confirm that it is playing and that the Mac is using the expected output device. Open Levelune and adjust that app’s level. This is easier to interpret than testing during an important call with several sound sources active.
If the mixer reports that no audio reached it, check the named permission and reopen as instructed before changing other settings. If sound is absent everywhere, inspect macOS output selection and volume too; permission is not the only possible cause. Apple’s sound-output guide explains those system controls.
Keep the boundaries clear
Levelune controls volume and mute per app. It does not separate browser tabs, and it does not route different apps to different speakers. Granting audio access does not add those features. For balancing music with a call, see the mixing and troubleshooting guide.
If you contact support, describe the macOS version, affected app, output device and permission state. You can explain a volume problem without sending a recording of a private conversation. Review the privacy policy for the product’s current data handling.
